Warriors often encounter hostile enemies on the battlefield and so don helmets for protection. Yet, underneath that hard outer shell lies a softer layer - an arming cap crafted from padded fabric to protect against head chafing whilst providing warmth during combat. Without a helmet, this coif can also be worn alone to help protect your head and ears from the elements.
